I’ve seen the Internet equated to Johannes Gutenberg’s movable type printing press. I don’t think it’s a fair comparison. The Gutenberg press placed books in the hands of the masses, but it didn’t give the masses a voice. One was still limited to what one could get published, distributed and sold. The gatekeepers of the printing houses determined what would be published & what would not…well into the late 20th century.
The Internet opens the door for all of us to voice our thoughts & opinions, beliefs & desires, no matter how beautiful, banal or disgusting. It’s truly an open forum. A forum so open in fact, it’s no wonder governments (& big players like Facebook & Twitter) want so desperately to control it. We now have an incomprehensible amount of information available…literally…at our finger tips. Whether that information is good or bad, right or wrong is irrelevant; it’s absolutely amazing & can be overwhelming. We have truly achieved information overload!
So…in the spirit of increasing the din just a bit more, I have decided to add my virtual voice to this already cacophonous quagmire of brain droppings we call the “Web.” Maybe I’ll write something here you’ll find useful, entertaining or annoying; one never knows. Stay tuned. Because I will at least try to make it interesting even if it’s controversial. And if I have anything to do with it, I’ll make damned sure it’s controversial!
